Am I supposed to flush my water heater?

Written by
There are several reasons why you should have your water heater flushed! Flushing will save you money on energy cost. Also, the sediment that builds in the bottom of the tank displaces your hot water volume. This gives you less available hot water, not to mention the calcium, rust, dirt, scale and iron in the bottom of the tank. Bacteria can easily grow in the older tank water heaters sometimes putting off a smell of sulfur or rotten egg odor.

Once you have a technician preform the first flushing and actually seeing the sediment first hand, you might reconsider making hot tea or hot chocolate directly from the hot water tap. The dirt being flushed out of the bottom of the water tank is pretty disgusting!

What you are flushing out!

Sediment

Our technicians have seen as much as 6-8 inches of sediment build-up in fifteen year old water heater and with the family always complaining of not having enough hot water! Having your water heater tank flushed can also the unit last longer. By having the unit cleaned on a yearly basis you will be able to notice any future rusting on the outside of the tank. This rust can tell you its time to replace the unit and help prevent flooding of your home.

Flushing your hot water heater on a yearly basis will save you money, enhance hot water quality and extend the lifetime of your unit giving you peace of mind. If, you have not had your hot water heater flushed in the past year please do not hesitate to call today at 865-583-3957 same day service guaranteed. We look forward to helping you and your hot water heater grow old together.

Tips on preventing frozen pipes.

Written by

Freezing pipes burst due to pressure. Most believe the ice forming in the pipes itself causes pressure on the pipe and burst it. But, actually it is the pressure that is created between the ice and the fixture that causes it to burst. The pressure is trapped and slowly expands your piping causing indefinitely a burst line. There are some precautionary measures you can take to help prevent this from happening.

Go through your home: attic, garage, basement, exterior and check for exposed water lines. All water lines should be well insulated. The insulation around the pipe helps hold heat, lowering the risk of having a burst water line. Even though the basement and attic are interior spaces of the home, they still need to be insulated if heat is limited.

With winter upon us it has brought freezing temperatures with it. The temperature at which water freezes is 32 degrees F. Once temperatures have drop below this mark it is good to turn on 1-2 fixtures per floor. The flow does not need to be heavy, but just a small stream. As long as water is moving through the pipes it will help prevent freezing. Make sure you turn on both sides of the fixture, both hot and cold.
