Common Air Conditioning Problems

Did you know that the average lifespan of an air conditioning unit is 12 years? As your AC system ages, you are more likely to experience problems and need repairs. Here are a few of the most common issues home owners experience.

Common Air Conditioning Problems:

  • AC Won’t Turn On – It could be that your thermostat isn’t set correctly. Check to make sure that the thermostat is set to AC or “cool.” If this doesn’t fix the problem, make sure that the power is reaching your AC unit. It’s possible that you have a tripped fuse.
  • Decrease in Comfort – If you aren’t comfortable, it’s likely that you are having air flow issues with your air conditioner. Check your air filter to see if it needs to be changed. If that isn’t the problem, check to make sure that there is no plant growth around your outdoor condenser.
  • High Utility Bills – If you notice a spike in your operating bill, your most likely culprit (after a dirty air filter) is a choked condensing coil. Give us a call for a spring tune-up!
  • Leaking Water – Air conditioners remove humidity from the air in your home. Typically the water will collect in a pan and flow out through a line. If you notice water accumulating, this means that there is a blockage or disconnection of your tube.
