How to Cut Cooling Costs While Spending More Time at Home

Cut Cooling Costs

How to Cool Your Home Efficiently This Summer

This summer, there’s a chance that you may find yourself spending more time at home than ever before. When that’s the case, you’ll be relying on your home’s central air conditioner to keep you and your family comfortable all season.

However, with heavy usage, it may increase your energy bills, or worse — break down unexpectedly. To prevent any of these scenarios from happening, here are some helpful cooling tips to help you save this summer:

Replace Your Current Air Conditioner

Is your current central air conditioner ten years of age or older? If so, you may want to consider upgrading to a newer model — since it may be a much wiser investment in the long run. Nowadays, centralized cooling systems have come a long way in terms of efficiency; they’re manufactured to tackle homes of all shapes and sizes while using a reasonable amount of energy to get the job done (unlike their relatives).

Swap Your Air Filter

As we often say, one of the most essential pieces to the HVAC puzzle is your home’s air filter. This wavy-like screen helps stop airborne allergens from coming into contact with your central heating and cooling system. Typically, depending on how often you use your system, the filter should be replaced about every three months (minimum). Failure to do so can result in making your system’s blower fan work much harder than it has to produce cool air, which can shorten its lifespan.

Have a Smart Thermostat Installed

If you’re looking to make sure that no system errors fall through the cracks, it may be wise to have a programmable thermostat (also known as a smart thermostat) installed. With the option to be controlled by a smartphone, you’ll be able to adjust the temperature through an app, but it can even send you alerts as to when your system may need repair or a filter replacement.
