The Best Ways to Keep Warm for Less

When the weather outside is starting to get frightful, your fireplace won’t be so delightful since it can only heat your home to a certain extent. Sure, you can turn the thermostat up a notch — but if your heating unit is always on, then it may raise your energy bills tremendously. Looking to stay warm, but on a budget? If so, here are some great ways to do that:

Open the Blinds

Does your home get a decent amount of sunlight throughout the day? If that’s the case, then it’s best to pull back the drapes and open the blinds. The reason is simple: this is the perfect way to heat your house on a budget since the rays from the sun will get trapped within (just like a greenhouse), creating some warmth! Of course, you’ll have to complete this routine on a daily basis (when applicable) to reap the benefits of this free heat!

Clear the Vents

In your home, do you happen to have either a sofa or end table blocking a heating vent? If that’s the case, then you’re obstructing the pathway for the heat to get to you! To correct this, it’s best to move the furniture around to get the most out of your HVAC unit. Indeed, you can redesign your entire layout — or you can downsize and move individual pieces of furniture to other rooms, if they’re not often used.

Replace the Filter

Another great way to stay warm is to replace your furnace filter. Sure, just like your central air unit, the source of heat in your home needs some TLC, too. Of course, this filter doesn’t have to be swapped out as frequently — but it must be changed after approximately four years for the best heating results (and to avoid a potential fire). If you’re not sure which filter will be the best fit, or how to properly install it, feel free to give us a call, and we’ll send a member of our team to help!
